Basically I've started watching this new anime lately and I've enjoyed it so much that I just wanted to write about it. The series name is Tokyo Ghoul, it's a very violent but somewhat sweet anime featuring the city of Tokyo which is infested by ghouls. The ghouls are put out to be animals with a lust for flesh but as you start watching the first few episodes you start understanding that ghouls are just troubled people with an unquenchable thirst that forces them to eat other people.
The main character of the series is Kaneki. Kaneki is a shy bookworm that managed to ask out a ghoul on a date, get attacked by said ghoul and survive. But to survive the doctors had to replace his organs, unknowingly the doctors gave him the organs of a ghoul and now he is half human half ghoul which means he has to figure out how to survive, interact with society as well as keeping the CCG off of his back. It's overall a really original anime plot but there still is the quite common stereotype here and there.
To put together the bad aspects of the show I would first have to say that the first episode is a key part of the plot but turns a lot of people off with the gore and jump scare, secondly some of the character genres just don't quite appeal to me especially Kaneki's childhood friend Hide who is a ladies man, goof ball and "genius" at the same time, doesn't quite settle for me but I can live with it for the good of the show. Finally of the three top baddies of course I would have to include the weird storytelling of unexplained things e.g Why does this girl decide to save Kaneki, why does this Grandfather decide to teach him how to be a ghoul and function in society, I think that if there had been a little bit more time put into tying that stuff together the series would have benefited a lot.
So all in all Tokyo Ghoul is a very gory, plot based action anime. The story is very nice in the way that it forces you to watch more episodes to learn more. The series has some nice character designs or should I say characters that appeal to me at least. The series has a lot of content for adults but still draws back to some stereotypical charming anime scenes. An adult anime with kid elements that has both gore and pretty pictures. Its unimaginable.
P.S This review is sort of bias thanks to my binge anime watching.
